Blog Post #8: Camera Movement Practice
A practice on camera movement was necessary for the further development of cinematographic techniques that are used in Media production. This practice helped me differentiate between one movement or technique and another (like Zoom and Dolly Shot), and how every one of these movements connotes different emotions with no need for dialogue or guidance.
(Because of Blogger.com limitations, I was not able to upload any of the videos on camera practice I recorded)
Reflection
This project helped me significantly in differentiating all of the camera movements and the effects they provoke in the audience. Some of the movements, like the tilt, suggest a revelation, something is being introduced to the viewers, which gives importance to the subject in that specific scene. The most fun movement was the Handheld, which gives a lot of freedom to the cameraman to walk along the subject or the action itself; this one feels less controlled than the other movements. However, the most challenging one was the Crane as it is difficult to recreate that shot without the appropriate equipment. In my project, I would definitely like to include the Handheld shot. Now, thanks to this assignment, I'm planning to develop my project in a documentary-style way, like “The Blair Witch Project”.
